JBKLAB (CEO Jang Bong-geun, Ph.D.), which operates CellMed, has obtained a patent related to a substance for improving the prevention or treatment of lung fibrosis, which contains an anthocyanin-negative charged polysaccharide complex as an active ingredient.

Lung fibrosis is a disease in which lung tissues gradually contract and harden due to inflammation in the lungs, which are essential organs responsible for human breathing. Inflammation becomes chronic or remains due to bacterial or viral infections, and in severe cases, life may be lost.

Currently, steroids that suppress inflammation are used to treat lung fibrosis, but they only temporarily suppress inflammation. In addition, it is difficult to treat the inflammation that has already occurred, and various side effects such as weakening of the skin and bones and deformation of blood vessels when used for a long time have been reported.

JBKLAB has been studying various effects of a complex of anthocyanin extracted from Aronia and negatively charged polysaccharide extracted from seaweed as an active ingredient. Through years of research, this application was conducted by noting the significantly improved effect of each substance compared to the single treatment of each substance in the symptoms of lung fibrosis.

An official of the research team said, "We expect to be able to deliver differentiated effects by applying the acquired patent to health functional foods and drugs containing plant nutrients such as Cyaplex F," adding, "This patent is an achievement of JBKLAB's steady natural nutrition research, and we will continue to accelerate the development of technology to utilize plant extract nutrients recognized by customers."

JBKLAB holds more than 30 patents related to natural nutrients, including "Antocyanine Composition and Manufacturing Method" and "Use of an anthocyanine-negative charged polysaccharide complex for the prevention or treatment of type A influenza virus infection."
